Low Murmurs

Low Murmurs

Low Murmurs

My newest original poem, “Low Murmurs,” published for the first time, here in The Renaissance Garden Guy.  It’s a shorty.

By John G. Stamos

Low Murmurs

John G. Stamos

They whisper, sharing secrets dear,

Or simply nod, or bow,

And, as one, plied with earthen cheer,

Honor a solemn vow

To embrace warmth, or damp, or drear,

While aiming to bestow,

Bright arcing of the charioteer

‘Cross Nyx’s ploughing prow.

Together, they perform their toils

Throughout the fairer days,

Brave little flowers, so near the soil,

Return Great Helios’ gaze,

And to the peaks of mortal coil

Reflect and shunt those rays,

But bird and beast are of this foil,

And too commune in phase.

Thanks for giving this one a go.  I hope you liked it.  I’m pretty sure it was too short to put anyone to sleep, but stranger things and all…

And, as always, thank you for your kind interest and continued readership.  It’s all dearly appreciated.

Cheers, and Happy Gardening!

      1. John, you had me at “murmurs,” such a provocative word, not to mention its sound! I visualize the flowers, the frogs, the water and the earth whispering in a language we cannot hear. They allow us to see and feel it, though. I feel the brevity of the poem adds to its magic!

        1. Thank you so much for reading the poem, Gerri, and for your incredibly kind words. Your thoughts about the poem, and your perception regarding its various nuances, are fascinating. I really appreciate them, and thoroughly enjoyed reading them. Thanks once again, Gerri.

    1. Thank you very kindly, Mary. I really appreciate your kind words, and I’m very happy that you enjoyed it. I admit that I really kind of liked it myself. (Not too much of me, if you know what I mean.) The pic is of low-growing varieties of yarrow and Liatris. Looking at them yesterday got me thinking. Thanks once again, Mary.
