Two Poems

Two Poems

Two Poems

Here are two poems.  Sort of free verse-ish, sort of prose-ish.  I just wrote them now, and ran outside to grab a pic in the dark.  So, two hastily written poems and one hastily snapped photo is my RGG contribution this evening.  (Somebody ought to can me.)

By John G. Stamos

Insurrection

John G. Stamos

The sun is King of Days and reigns well

Until the muffled crescendo of a moth’s wings

Proclaims his abdication and

A bullfrog, with his basalt salpinx,

Heralds the draping of a starry mantle.

A new republic is born.

Fire Escape

John G. Stamos

It’s gettin’ hot, man.  I mean real bad.

The talk’s gettin’ goin’,

Fingers pointin’,

Doors slammin’,

And the alley’s no good anymore

For cover.

Hustlin’ a game of one pocket (or straight)

Ain’t the same as what you done.

Women, man…

Was it worth it?

Fucker’s packin’, man.

Always is.  You know it.

You knew it, man.

When you did what you did.

Can’t talk your way out,

Not with a devil like him.

Fucker’s packin’ and he’s dark.

He’s insane.

Insane, man.

You were the king, man.

The fuckin’ king, right here.

Nobody touched you…

Damn, you’re shakin’.

Man, I’m trashed seein’ you

Like this.  Never seen it before…

You got you some.

Yeah you did.

Women, man…

Now you’re fucked

Unless… aww, man…

So you’re out.  Ain’t no honor in that.

Alright, alright.

I didn’t see nothin’, never seen you.

Never talked to you tonight.

I don’t know shit.

But you ain’t never

Runnin’ a table in this town again.

Two shorties.  I rushed them just a little.  I hope they didn’t disappoint.  I actually really sort of liked them.  And really, I wouldn’t have published them if I felt they had no redeeming value.  Thanks for giving them a read.

Cheers, and Happy Gardening!

    1. Thank you so much, Tina. I’m honored by your kind praise, and I’m so glad to know that you enjoy my work. Thanks once again!

    1. Thank you so very, very much, Roxxy. You honor me with such wonderful praise. I thank you from the bottom of my heart.

  1. Superb writing as always. I read both of them a couple of times. Never being a pool player, those references to the game escaped me the first time I read the second poem. I realized their meaning when I reread it. It blew me away, it is completely different from your other poems. Simply outstanding!

    1. Wow, Kevin, thank you so much! I’m really glad you liked these two works. I admit that I really had a blast writing them, and I actually think they turned out alright, too. I really appreciate the kind words, Kevin – thanks again!

    1. Thank you for giving them a read, Lisa. I’m happy you enjoyed “Insurrection.” I have to admit that I really kind of liked that one, too (but I also really liked the second one – it was a blast to write). I’ve always thought of daytime yielding to night as a passing of sovereignty from one dynasty to the next. My apologies for the melodrama! Thanks for giving them both a read, Lisa, and thank you for your kind thoughts and words.

  2. Awesome sauce. I really like the first one.

The second one is one of those kinds of poems – like Ginsberg – that needs to be read and read over and over and over. For me – it remnded me of Ginsberg’s ‘Howl.’

    Keep up the good work.

    1. Oh, wow, Annie – I’m beyond flattered. Thank you SO much. I feel unworthy of the comparison, but I’ll tell you what, I’m taking it! Bless your kind heart. And I will tell you that even though these were written quickly, it was a total blast writing them, and, in the end, I humbly thought they turned out alright. You’re obviously very well-read, and that fact makes your kind compliments so incredibly meaningful. Thanks once again!

      1. If you haven’t read Howl – please consider doing so. It is also one of those poems that needs to be read many times. It’s very long. But it’s well worth the read.

And your second poem so much reminds me of it.

        Blessings

        1. Oh, yes, Annie. One of my all-time faves. No one looks at society’s ills and rips it a new a-hole like Ginsberg. And your compliment is beyond kind, and it’s particularly poignant, as Ginsberg happens to be, in my opinion, one of the very greatest of the 20th century. Thank you once more, Annie – I’m completely honored by your praise.
