Seeds and Veggies

Seeds and Veggies

Welcome to the Seeds and Veggies Gallery.  I do grow ornamental perennials and vegetables from seed, and I grow veggies and fruit trees and bushes from bareroot.  Did you know that many perennial vegetables and hardy fruit trees and bushes make awesome ornamentals?  Like all of the other individual image galleries here in The Renaissance Garden Guy Photo Gallery, the Seeds and Veggie Gallery is a work in progress – I’ll be adding images here on a continuing basis.  Please remember to check back in to see what’s growing.  Cheers, and Happy Gardening!

Seeds and Veggies
Horseradish plants bedded as bare roots last year. I grow these incredibly hardy perennials as ornamentals in large pots. In summer, they'll produce sprays of beautiful little white flowers.

Espoma Organic Plant-tone.  I am a huge fan of Espoma’s line of organic fertilizers.  Plant-tone is the one I use for the majority of the plants in my garden, including my horseradish and asparagus plants.  It’s got an N-P-K ratio of 5-3-3 and is a great all-purpose organic fertilizer.  It works perfectly for an incredibly wide variety of ornamental plants and edible fruits and vegetables.  Again, Espoma Organic Plant-tone is the food that a huge number of my plants get.  They love it, and it shows.  You can order this product here, directly from Amazon, by clicking the #advertisement link.

One of my own bags of Espoma Organic Plant-tone. The majority of my plants, including my horseradish and asparagus, are fed this remarkable product. The results are incredible.

A mighty oak... This little guy (in the next photo, as well) was an acorn when it landed in my tropical hibiscus' pot while it was spending last spring and summer outdoors. It sprouted and grew next to the hibiscus even after they both came indoors last fall.

Once spring arrives, the little oak tree will join members of its own kind in the forest.

The photos in this image, and the next were taken 05-07-23. Above are my asparagus, planted as bareroots in March. Since this is their first year in the ground, I will not cut them back. There should be a hearty asparagus roundup next year! The next photo shows my artichoke and bush bean fields. My dog, Tony, upended my last crop, so I had to start over.

This pic, and the next one, are of my organic, non-GMO asparagus. I'm growing them from bareroot. Tough perennials that will provide good eating for years to come.

Direct-sowing Echinacea seeds into the soil of one of my ornamental perennial planting beds.
Bareroot asparagus. Fresh from shipping (left), and in the ground and growing. I planted these in late winter. The mulch keeps them safe from the cold.

Aparagus sprouting. It's gonna be a bumper crop!
